Puppy Toes FAQ

What's with all these .txt files that came with the program?
These are the files where you put your dogs' breeds, colors, dam names, sire names, etc. Use "NotePad" or any simple word processing program to edit the .txt files, but they must retain the .txt file extension. Edit these files when you don't have the dog records program open. Each file has an example name already filled in; delete this name when you add your own dogs' names, one name per line. When you open the program, you will see your dogs' names in the drop-down menu choices. Just click on the one you want to appear in the space provided.

The program won't work and I don't see any .txt files in the directory I put it in.
The program needs the .txt files to function properly. You'll have to make your own, which is not difficult at all. In NotePad or any text editor, make the following files: dams.txt, sires.txt, femalenames.txt, malenames.txt, breeds.txt, colors.txt, withwhomf.txt, and withwhomm.txt. The file names must be exactly as I listed them. Save these files in the same directory (folder) as the program. Follow the directions above for filling in the information for each file. Hint: "withwhomf.txt" is for female dogs that will be or have been bred and "withwhomm.txt" is for male dogs that will be or have been bred.

What type of information would I put under the heading "Genetic Screening"?
If you've had a dog checked for P.R.A., you can list it here, along with any additional information you'd like (name of vet, date). If your dog has an OFA certification number, you can list that here as well. The heading is also for DNA profile numbers and examination dates for luxating patellas or any congenital disease.

If I no longer have a particular dog and want to delete his record, how would I do that?
Go to the directory (folder) where the program is. Among other files, you will see two files for the dog you no longer have: "thisdog.dg2" and "thisdog.html". Right-click on each file, and choose "Delete" from the menu that appears. This should send the files to your Recycle Bin. If you want to completely remove all references to this dog, delete his name from any of the .txt files where he might be listed.

I'm finished with a dog record and want to print it - how do I do that?
Open the file in your browser. Click on "File" and then "Print". Or, just click on the printer icon at the top of your browser.

Under the "Breeding Record" heading and "Owned by", how do I get the name and address of the owner to be on separate lines on my page to be printed?
Type the owner's name and then the code for line break - see example below. Do not put a space between your text and the line break code.
line break
The result on your printed page will be:
Boris D'Marco
33 Next Street
